Menjelang 2020 pendapatan pelancongan Langkawi bakal cecah RM9 bilion

LANGKAWI: The Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) targets income in the tourism sector in Langkawi to reach RM9 billion by 2020, its chief executive officer Datuk Azizan Noordin said.

He said the target was set on the island's expectation to attract five million tourists by the year compared to 3.67 million registered last year.

"Tourist arrivals last year have enabled Langkawi to register a revenue of about RM5.6 billion," he said in his address at the LADA Excellent Service Award Ceremony here last night.

He said the target was contained under Langkawi Tourism Blueprint 2.0, a development plan for Langkawi's tourism industry development for the period between 2016 and 2020.

This plan, he said, will also involve more organizing international events on this island.

Azizan said starting this year, LADA had planned to organize 35 international tourism events including classic car show, World Tour Series Volleyball and high-powered motorcycle festivals.

In addition, LADA has also succeeded in hosting bid promotion promotion of the Asia Pacific Travel Association (PATA Travel Mart) next year.

"The success of organizing these events is largely dependent on the commitment of LADA staff and cooperation with other parties," he said.

He urged LADA officers to continue to provide their commitment to improve productivity and high quality work.

During the event, he presented the APC to 27 LADA officers who have succeeded in demonstrating excellence in carrying out their duties during 2016.
